"Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn't matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle; when the sun comes up, you'd better be running."

The Middletown Athletic Club (MAC) was formed in 2002 by several local, long-time runners, to promote running as a social, recreational and competitive activity. MAC is an officially-recognized member of the Road Runners Clubs of America (RRCA).

MAC’s goals include promoting running as a family-oriented activity as well as to promote youth running. MAC also fields several competitive teams in area races. Whether you are new to running or a seasoned competitor, youth athlete or Master, run for health and fitness or train to race a marathon, MAC offers something for everyone.

MAC sponsors weekly club runs for runners of all paces and goals, as well as several running-related social events and races each year. The two biggest, the Race to Find a Cure 5k held in early June and the Premier Physical Therapy Peach Festival 5k held in mid-August, draw a combined 450+ runners each. Check our ‘events’ page for more details on MAC events.

As a not-for-profit organization, proceeds from MAC membership dues and sponsored events are used to award TWO $750 scholarships annually to area high school cross country runners. Also MAC is a great way to join your neighbors and enjoy the simple sport of running.
